Arrival

It was so smooth I didn't see it coming. When I looked outside the window, the plane was on its way to the gate. Hannah looked at me; smiling she asked “are we already in Brazil”? Yes! Here we are. This is our land.

We were lucky, our baggage was one of the first ones. Out of that area and in the lounge very quick, I couldn't hold my tears.

I was then away from very special people, but close to my family, friends, and especially close to who I am. Why did I cry? The crowd spoke Portuguese and I had missed that.

Images popped in my mind. Alden library, Lindley Hall, Baker Center, Bentley, Gordy, Casa Nueva and the good beer there, Tony's, my bike, the crowd speaking in English, and China Fortune. Then my parents, my brother, friends, the beach I was going to see in Rio and the coconut water I was going to drink, the mountains, the market, fresh fruits, very cold beer, pão de queijo, doce de leite, and our strong coffee. And of course, my sister and my brother in law are there in Athens. Brazilian and North American things mixed in my mind and heart. I realized I have many different feelings. Somehow, different feelings have to be managed because we never have everything together in one scenario.
